Fun blood facts
Did you know that only 12 states still require you to get blood tests before you can obtain a marriage license? And did you know that in Montana, only the bride is required to get a blood test? I asked the guy with the big needle why exactly do I need to get the test and he said it was to test for rubella. Fascinating. But, the confusing part is that the state doesn't need to know my actual results. They just need to know that I got stabbed in the arm. Neato, huh?
I read on the all-knowing Internet that the purpose behind the blood test is to type the blood of both parties entering the marriage. A negative blood type in the mother can mean problems with future pregnancies if the father has a positive blood type. The goal of blood typing was to prevent the devastating effects of Rh incompatibility.
I'm A+ by the way. So, I'm cool. But, again, why does Montana only require the GIRL to get jabbed? And no where on the little official document did they actually write down my blood type. So, Montana doesn't apparently care about Rh incompatibility. I'm so very confused...
Another fun fact. (This is mostly for my Nebraska boy's information.) Did you know that Nebraska is the only state that has the age of 19 as the cutoff of when you don't need parental consent to get married? The rest of the country is 18. Apparently, they don't mature as fast down in corn country. (I'm kidding, babe. You're twice as mature as every other guy I know that is your age.)
But, all this confusing, useless information aside. We have a real life official marriage license. It's pretty and notarized with fancy swirly writing on it. When the clerk chick whipped out the embosser to make the license official, I just got the biggest dumb grin on my face. And I couldn't seem to get rid of it.
74 days.....but, um...it's not like I'm really keeping track or anything.....*cough cough*

Your friends are grin right along side you! It's been an honor and a joy to be a part of it all.
Bizarre. I really think MT needs to drop its blood test policy before I have to get a marriage license... :)
