it's a joy

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."

Hopefully more coherent then the last two posts

So, moving and cleaning sucks blah blah blah....

Now that we've got that out of the way...

I've decided that I'm going to try to post a couple Italy pictures everyday for a month or so to let you know about our awesome trip. Since I am apparently not able to type up posts that really make any sense, we'll just let the pictures do the talking....with a little commentary.

We started our little trip in Rome. We had set up a pre-planned taxi transfer to our hotel, so we had someone waiting for us at the airport with a little sign with our names on it. It was cool. I've always seen those, but never actually had it apply to me. As we were driving to our hotel, which was located in the old city, our driver took us by the Colosseum. That was the number one thing on my list that I wanted to see so I decided right there that I could go home happy. We didn't see the Colosseum again for a couple more days though, so pictures of that will come later. (Wait, wasn't I supposed to be letting the pictures talk?) Anyway, we got to our hotel and marveled at it's tiny square footage and also the bidet, but then left to investigate. We found a cool little restaurant on a side street near our hotel and sat down and had our first Italian meal. (I was still too in awe to be taking pictures yet, so that's why they aren't speaking yet.) The food was good and the wine was so yummy. We walked around a little bit more, found our first gelato, and then made our way back to the hotel. Which brings us to our first picture!! Yay!! We found a little staircase that led to the roof of our hotel, which we snuck up and enjoyed our gelato and the view. (I apologize in advance for the mushiness.)
Ok, so the view wasn't that great. But, we had Italian food, wine and gelato in our bellies! Everything looked good!

Another thing to mention. This is what started our vacation "tradition" of the arm extended self portraits. You'll see a lot of these.

The next morning, we had a Vatican City tour planned. But, I am a navigator GENIUS and got us totally lost and we missed it. After calling the tour company to reschedule, we had a free day. And since we were in the Vatican City area anyway, we decided to go check it out. This is St. Peter's Basilica.

Ok, I have to mention....the problem with places like Rome and Vatican City is that everything is so extraordinary and awesome and LARGE, that it is impossible to decide what the best picture point is. So, just believe me that these pictures looked SO much better in my head.

After the Vatican City, we decided to track down the Trevi Fountain. My sister had warned me that this is pretty tricky to find, so we thought it would be a fun adventure. Whatever, Jen....all you have to do is follow the signs. *wink* No, it is a bit tricky because apparently the designer of the fountain liked the element of surprise of walking around a corner of a quiet street and then all of a sudden having a glorious fountain in front of you...and this was how it was no matter what direction you approached it. It was pretty cool.

This picture sucks a little because I was trying to not get any people in the shot and that was crazy tricky. There were a TON of people there.

And another arm-extended picture. Good thing Jerod has long arms! We have pictures later on of us actually doing the traditional coin toss into the fountain, but I'll save those for later.

Ok, that's it for now. That was pretty much our first day. A lot of walking and riding the subway and figuring out our way around. Oh, I should also mention that in all of the pictures, we probably look a bit "dewy". That's because it was 100+ degree weather. Holy hotness. I was never so thankful for AC.
