it's a joy

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."

The Pantheon

(Here continues the pictures with commentary about the coolest trip to Italy ever...)
See part one here.

The next morning, we decided to try to decipher the Rome bus system to figure our our way to the Pantheon. We had mastered the subway, so we needed a new challenge! Plus, the subway doesn't go to the area that the Pantheon is, so we kind of had to.

We approached it from the back, and we weren't too sure we were at the right spot. It is quite unimpressive on the outside. But, when you consider how old it is and that it actually is the best preserved first century building in Rome, you kind of figure out why it may appear to be falling down.

Once we made our way around to the front, we began to see what all the fuss was about. It opened up into a big square with a fountain...of course.

It was hard to get a good all-inclusive shot. Again with the big building thing and the crowd of people and not much space to backup and take a good picture.

View from behind the fountain.

Picture of the dome from the inside with the sun coming through. Again, it looked so much better in person...

They were preparing for a mass to be held there.

Marble column. My attempt to be artsy...

Since we went to the Pantheon on our own and our book didn't say much about it, we never realized that the painter Raphael's tomb is there until one of our later tours. Otherwise, there would totally be a picture of that.

Going through my pictures, this was the ONLY shot I have of the food we ate. I so wish I would've taken more....and maybe before I had eaten some and made a mess of the plate. This was my first official Italian spaghetti. We ate at a little restaurant that had a fairly good view of the Pantheon.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get some picture up from our Ancient Rome walking tour. And finally the Colosseum!!
