it's a joy

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."

Piazza Della Signoria

See the first posts here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

After our visit to Santa Croce, we went in search of the original display area of Michaelangelo's David, Piazza Della Signoria.

The Palazzo Vecchio building in the square has a HUGE clock tower on it. It was so big. This picture does it no justice.

This was the copy of David that is standing in the real David's orginal spot in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. The real David stands in the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts down the street.

This is a gorgeous piece hanging above the entrance to the palace. It says "Rex Regum et Dominus Dominantium" which translates to "Jesus Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords". I loved loved LOVED this.

Fountain of Neptune

Benvenuto Cellini's statue Perseus With the Head of Medusa

Copy of the Rape of the Sabine Women by Jean de Boulogne. The real one is also in the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts.

Ok, that's as artsy as we got, pretty much. Florence is known for it's great art, but since we both aren't really art-savvy, we skipped a lot of it. The Piazza Della Signoria also has the art gallery Uffizi in it, but we weren't even going to TRY to attempt that one.

Tomorrow....the Duomo.
