Our trip to Venice was quite interesting. Getting out of Siena with it's flaky bus system and then finding a train to Venice that didn't require reservations was pretty tricky. But, we managed and got into Venice in the afternoon. We got off the train and searched for a Vaparetto (public boat transportation) to take us to as close to our hotel as we could get. But, apparently the train station stop was closed down since it was a Sunday and there was some construction on a new bridge over the Grand Canal. So, we had to walk to the next stop, lugging our big ole' luggage UP the stairs and DOWN the stairs of every canal bridge we crossed. Once we found the next stop, there was no where to buy any tickets, so we decided to chance it and see if we could buy a ticket on board. No one seemed to care that we didn't have a ticket, so we just got off at our stop and attempted to find our hotel. More bridges. More stairs. And it's not like it's EASY to find your way around Venice. I finally stopped and asked directions after we got hopelessly lost and eventually found our room. We shuffled into the lobby SOAKING with sweat only to face even more stairs to get to our hotel room. After going up the stairs and walking and walking, we discovered that we were the very last room in the hall. And after finally getting the door open and wheeling our sorry, dusty luggage into the room and expecting the worse, we both gasped. And this is what we saw...

And yes, that's a chandelier you see in the top left hand corner.

These stairs lead up to the loft where we found this:

KING. SIZE. BABY.

The bathroom was the size of our entire hotel room in Rome.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the view...

Our windows faced right out onto a canal. Could it get any cooler?

Here are some random pictures of the skinny streets and canals that I took on our walks around the city. It was truly a unique place.

THAT is really a Room With a View! What a pleasant surprise! :)
Cool! I'm glad there were some great things like that about Venice.
Doesn't God have wonderful little surprises for us? (I got hopelessly lost in Venice, too, and I pride myself on being "the navigator.")
